Sweden has a new government and a new Prime
Minister. The center-right alliance led by Fredrik
Reinfeldt of the Moderate Party won a narrow victory
over the ruling Social Democrats and their left- wing
allies. The result brings to an end 12 years of Social
Democratic rule and ends the career of Prime Minister
Göran Persson. In our luncheon presentation Anders
Ericson shares perspectives on the new government and
its current direction. He will add some color to what a
center-right governing agenda may look like in Sweden
today, provide some insight into current hot political
topics and outline possible changes domestically and
around foreign relations.

What do goat milk, spiders, and
fishing lines have in common? Music records and
airlines? Ant behavior and telecommunications routing?
Most of us would assume nothing. But out of each of
these seemingly random combinations have come radical
innovations that have created whole new fields. Frans
Johansson will take us on a fascinating journey to the
Intersection: a place where ideas from different fields
and cultures meet and collide, ultimately igniting an
explosion of extraordinary new innovations. See how
companies become global leaders, how products and
services yield huge margins, how researchers, managers
and artists outdo their peers.
BIOGRAPHY
Frans Johansson is an author, speaker,
entrepeneur and managing director of Medici Capital
management. His recent bestselling book, The Medici
Effect, was named one of the best innovation books of
the year by several organizations and selected as one of
the best business books of 2004 by Amazon.com.
The book and many of Frans' speaking engagements look at
how individuals, teams and organizations can create an
explosion of remarkable ideas at the intersection of
fields, cultures and industries. Frans has, in fact,
lived at the intersection most of his life: He was a
founder of bth a software and medical device company. He
has written articles on health- care, on
information-technology and on the science of sport
fishing. He was raised in Sweden by his African-
American and Cherokee mother and Swedisg father.
Frans earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and a
BS at Brown University.

Håkan Swahn - Biography: After
seventeen years as the owner of the venerable Aquavit
restaurant, Håkan Swahn has satisfied a lifelong passion
with the relocation of Aquavit in January 2005. His love
of Scandinavian cuisine and appreciation for mid
twentieth century design is coupled and brilliantly
reflected at the new Aquavit resturant. Håkan Swahn is
born in Västerås, just west of Stockholm. After
graduation from the prestigious Stockholm School of
Economics Swahn accepted a position as a system brand
manager for a Swedish based divison of Procter and
Gamble. In 1980, after three years at Procter and
Gamble, Swahn’s thirst for new challenges led him to
apply to the Swedish Trade Office in New York. Hired as
the assistant to the trade commissioner, Swahn consulted
with Swedish companies interested in launching their
business in America. Since Swahn was specializing in the
food industry he quickly became aware of how little
people in America knew about Scandinavian food. Eager to
make the food of his homeland available in the U.S Swahn
worked with a group of investors aggressively to promote
Swedish food throughout the U.S. In November 1987
Aquavit opened its first restaurant in New York City.
With its focus on fresh fish and seafood, Aquavit
quickly gained a devoted following and rave reviews.
Nowadays Aquavit is considered to be one of New York’s
and the country’s premier three-star restaurants
location at its trendy East 55th Street.
