BLUE SKIES
_small.jpg)
More than 60 skiers, ages 4 to 64, participated in
SACCNE’s (Swedish American Chamber of Commerce of New
England) annual Vasa Ski Race at Weston Ski Track, in
the Boston
suburbs. Under beautiful blue skies and excellent
natural snow conditions, the ski track was in perfect
condition for the racers.
SWEA provided refreshments including korv (hot dogs),
Ekstrom’s blåbärssoppa (blueberry soup, a traditional
favorite), semlor from Crown Bakery in
Worcester MA , and Gevalia coffee. Winner
in the men’s division was Gunther Kern; winner in the
women’s division was his wife, Dorthee Kern , who
finished only 3 minutes behind her husband. This
year’s “Kranskulla” was Ginga Severin-Olsson, Vice
Consul at the Swedish Consulate in
Boston, who crowned the winners
with the traditional wreaths. The two Kern
daughters, Nadja (15) , and Julia (10) finished fifth
and sixth to sweep the medals for the Kern family!!
The clubhouse was packed after the
race for the awards ceremony. Gold sponsors for
the event were
Boston
VOLVO, IKEA.,and SAS. Winners received
$ 100.00.IKEA gift certificates (sorry no Volvos to the
winners!!). Second prizes were Orrefors crystal
(donated by SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES) plus
$ 25.00 gift certificate from GIFT
CHALET in Auburn MA.
EXPLORICA donated the semlor, always a highlight of the
morning! Children’s division winners
