We interviewed Andrew Cook, SVP for Munters Humidity Control Technologies within their Business Area AirTech in the Americas, to find out more about their work in New England and what they look forward to with their new membership.

Please introduce yourself, Munters, and your work in Boston!

Andrew Cook, SVP for Munters Humidity Control Technologies within our Business Area AirTech in the Americas. Responsible for the complete lifecycle of our humidity control business – from market awareness, to demand generation, sales, manufacturing, service, and ultimately new equipment replacements for products and systems that have reached the end of life.

Munters has played a role in shaping the industry for climate solutions since its founding in 1955. Curiosity and a drive to create pioneering technologies are part of our DNA. Our climate solutions are mission-critical to our customers’ success and contribute to a more sustainable planet.

While we’re a global company, Munters has had a significant presence in New England since the 1960s, where one of our main USA facilities operates north of Boston in Amesbury, Massachusetts.

How would you describe your company culture?

The Munters culture is centered on our purpose and strategy – to grow a sustainable and profitable business. Our success is based on delivering on our strategic priorities as well as our ability to act with high ethics and respect for human rights, increased diversity, workplace safety, and reduced environmental impact. We aim to be a leader in our prioritized markets and segments, including:

  • The Battery industry

  • The Food Industry

  • Data center cooling

  • Software used in food production and services

We aim to be our customers’ first choice as a partner, where our success is built on close, long-term relationships and a deep understanding of the customer’s business and future needs. We continuously gather customer insights and utilize our expertise in applications and technology to offer attractive solutions and services.

We offer pioneering technology that provides our customers with significant value. Through our energy- and resource-efficient climate solutions we stay at the forefront of the industry’s development and contribute to a more sustainable future.

We constantly strive to increase efficiency and productivity in everything we do while reducing our carbon footprint. Our operations maintain responsible business practices and high ethical standards with respect for human rights, diversity, and health and safety in the workplace.

We aim to be an employer of choice. Our values – sustainable value creation, passion for results, there’s always a better way, and team spirit – are reflected in everything we do. Together with our code of conduct, they clarify how we relate to each other, our customers, and other stakeholders.

What is the best part of being an employee at Munters?

Working at Munters offers a number of unique and rewarding experiences. First, there’s the atmosphere of a smaller company, yet with a global reach. There are daily opportunities to learn about, and exchange with other cultures. Many of us have visited different countries where Munters is present, and regardless of the location, all of our sites share a “Munters family feeling.”

Next, we regularly get to live the “How It’s Made” experience, meaning that our systems are such an integral part of our customers’ processes that we’re able to gain an intimate knowledge of how their products are produced. Finally, it’s all about variety. In a single day, we can be in conversations related to candy production, poultry processing, lithium-ion battery production, and more – making every day a unique and interesting experience!

Where do you see Munters in 5 years?

In a word . . . growth. The ongoing growth of our overall business – creating opportunities for colleagues to join and excel within the Munters “family.” Plus, continued growth in our prioritized markets – enabling our customers’ mission-critical processes to perform at their peak with our innovative solutions. And, breaking through the $1 Billion revenue ceiling and growing upward from there!

All together with continued progress in achieving our sustainability goals of emissions reduction, resource efficiency, diversity, safety, and ethical business practices.

Why did you join SACC-NE and what are you looking forward to as a member?

As a Swedish company with a significant portion of our business in the Americas, we’re looking forward to working with the SACC-NE to enhance our overall presence and strengthen the Munters brand in New England, the USA, and the Americas overall.

Share some exciting news about Munters!

We’ve recently announced that we will build an all-new site in Amesbury, MA to house our desiccant dehumidification products and services for the North American market. The 400,000 ft. 2 (~ 38,000 m 2 ) flagship facility more than triples Munters’ current footprint in Amesbury.

Market demand for the precise temperature and humidity control that desiccant dehumidification technology provides has grown considerably, driven by the expansive electrification and digitalization trends. This state-of-the-art facility will allow us to provide even higher levels of customer service and satisfaction in our target markets.

The new facility will house fabrication, assembly, rotor production, a new R&D lab, as well as a service training academy. In line with Munters’ sustainability goals, investments will be made in equipment that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, and renewable energy sources will be used for the building’s electrical consumption. The plan is to be fully operational at the new site during 2024.
