Sweden Celebrates America’s 250 years of Independence
/The United States and Sweden share a deep and enduring relationship built on culture, commerce, and innovation—a partnership that continues to drive prosperity in both nations. Since the first Swedes arrived on American shores in 1638, Swedish immigrants and their descendants have helped shape the fabric of American society by building vibrant communities, advancing industry and economies, and strengthening the bonds between our countries.
Today, Sweden stands as the 9th largest foreign investor in the United States, supporting more than 379,000 American jobs across all 50 states—a reflection of centuries of collaborative progress.
As the United States commemorates 250 years of independence in 2026, Sweden will join in celebrating not only this historic milestone but also the dynamic Swedish‑American partnership. Together, we honor our achievements across business, innovation, research, security cooperation, and cultural exchange—and look ahead to the next chapter of collaboration between our nations.
